Dr. Brian G Wong, MD

Pediatric Neurologist Specializing in Neurodevelopment

A Journey of Compassion and Multidisciplinary Expertise

I was born and raised in California, growing up in a family that valued education and dedication to one’s craft. My mother, a calculus teacher, instilled in me a deep appreciation for teaching and helping others, while my father, who ran our family’s small business, taught me the importance of dedication and ingenuity.

Multidisciplinary Foundations

At UC Berkeley, I discovered my true calling through Cognitive Science—a field that perfectly captured my love for understanding the brain through multiple lenses. My academic journey wasn't just about learning, but about connecting dots across psychology, neurobiology, philosophy and linguistics.

Early Experiences Shaping My Practice

My pivotal experiences began as a volunteer therapist at an autism early intervention clinic specializing in the  DIR/Floortime model. I learned the transformative power of a child-centered and play-based approach that informs my care today. I also worked as a teacher’s aide in an autism-specific classroom of 5th/6th graders, utilizing an ABA approach.

Education Without Borders

Medical training took me from the diverse multi-cultural communities of New York at Albert Einstein College of Medicine to international teaching opportunities in Uganda, Bhutan, and Cambodia. At Children’s Hospital Los Angeles and USC, I didn't just complete my pediatric neurology residency—I earned a master's in global medicine that expanded my understanding of healthcare beyond conventional boundaries.

Bringing It All Together

My role as a medical director of a multidisciplinary clinic serving the needs of children with neurodevelopmental conditions was a synthesis of all my prior experiences. There I was humbled and learned something new every day from a team of speech, occupational, music, mental health, and behavior therapists. Recognizing that there was more to understand about the brain and it’s role in development, beyond simply my medical training, was eye opening.

Why Choose A Pediatric Neurologist?

When seeking care for a child with autism, ADHD, or other neurodevelopmental conditions, parents may wonder whether to see a developmental pediatrician, child psychiatrist, or pediatric neurologist. While they are all valid options, pediatric neurologists bring a unique perspective by focusing on how brain structure and function affects behavior, learning, and well-being.

As a pediatric neurologist, I assess how neurological factors—such as brain connectivity, neurochemistry, and electrical signaling—affect a child’s development. This allows me to provide:

  • Comprehensive neurological evaluations: My training enables me to conduct thorough neurological evaluations, including advanced diagnostic tests when necessary, to rule out or identify underlying neurological conditions that may be contributing to your child's symptoms.

  • Medical expertise in brain-based interventions, including neuromodulation, medications and pharmaceutical-grade supplements, and targeted therapies that optimize brain function.

  • An integrative approach that combines medical, behavioral, and therapeutic strategies for a well-rounded treatment plan.

Choosing a pediatric neurologist ensures that your child’s care includes a deep understanding of brain function while integrating therapies that support their development in a meaningful way.
