Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about Nurture Neuro, how we work, and what to expect. Don't see what you're looking for? Reach out — we're happy to help.

Do you take insurance? Are you in-network with my insurance plan?

Nurture Neuro is out-of-network with all insurance carriers — and that's intentional. Being OON means we're not bound by insurance rules about how long we spend with your child, what we can address in a single visit, or how many patients we need to move through in a day.

We know that OON care represents a real financial consideration for many families. Visits are cash-pay. At the end of each appointment, we provide a detailed superbill you can submit directly to your insurance carrier to seek reimbursement through your out-of-network benefits. Many families recover a meaningful portion of the cost this way.

Any diagnostic studies or treatments we recommend — labs, imaging, therapy referrals — can typically be billed through your insurance directly. The OON model applies to visits with Dr. Wong.

Why choose Nurture Neuro over an in-network pediatric neurologist?

The honest answer is time.

In a conventional insurance-based practice, a neurologist typically has 15 minutes per visit — sometimes less. That's enough to review a checklist. It's not enough to understand your child.

At Nurture Neuro, appointments are longer by design. That time is what lets us look at the whole picture: how sleep is affecting attention, how anxiety is shaping behavior, whether what looks like an ADHD problem might have a sensory or sleep issue underneath. Patterns that a rushed visit would miss become visible when there's actually time to ask the next question.

Wait times for in-network pediatric neurologists in Southern California can stretch for months. We're typically able to see new patients much sooner.

What conditions does Dr. Wong treat?

Dr. Wong specializes in neurodevelopmental and neurologic conditions in children, including ADHD and attention difficulties, autism spectrum disorder, developmental delay, learning differences (dyslexia, language processing), sleep disorders (insomnia, sleep apnea, circadian rhythm issues), emotion dysregulation, sensory processing challenges, headaches and migraines, tic disorders, and epilepsy.

Many of the children I see carry more than one diagnosis — or haven't received a clear diagnosis yet. Part of what we do is help families understand how these things connect and what's actually driving what.

Do you see patients in-person or via telehealth?

All visits at Nurture Neuro are conducted via telehealth — and for neurodevelopmental care, this works better than most people expect.

For ADHD, autism, sleep disorders, and learning differences, the most valuable information comes from conversation: understanding your child's history, how they function across different settings, and what you're observing at home and school. That clinical picture doesn't require your child to be in a room with me.

Telehealth also means no commute, no waiting room, and no disrupting your child's school day. For families throughout California, it also means access to specialized care that may not be available locally.

What's the advantage of seeing a pediatric neurologist over a psychiatrist or developmental pediatrician?

There's real overlap between all three fields — and an excellent developmental pediatrician or child psychiatrist can absolutely provide strong support for neurodevelopmental conditions.

What a pediatric neurologist adds is a specific lens: the developing nervous system itself. When ADHD, sleep, or emotion dysregulation has a neurologic underpinning — how the brain matures and organizes itself, seizure activity, a sleep architecture issue, or a sensory pattern rooted in how the brain is wired — that's where neurologic training makes a meaningful difference. I can also offer tools like EEG and neuromodulation approaches that fall outside most psychiatric or pediatric practices.

That said, I work alongside psychiatrists, developmental pediatricians, OTs, SLPs, and therapists regularly. The goal is always the right care for your child — not a turf question.

Does Dr. Wong see adult patients?

Dr. Wong is board-certified in both pediatric and adult neurology, but his practice is focused on children and adolescents. If you're looking for support for an adult family member, reach out to our office first — we're happy to have a brief conversation to determine whether it would be a good fit.

How long are appointments at Nurture Neuro?

Initial consultations and follow-up visits are longer than a typical insurance-based practice by design. The longer visit length isn't padding — it's the whole point. It's what allows us to look beyond the presenting symptom and understand the full picture of how your child is doing. In my experience, the most important questions come up in the second half of an appointment.

How do I get started?

The first step is reaching out through our contact form or by calling the office at (323) 849-0149. We typically schedule a brief call to make sure we're the right fit before booking a full consultation.

All visits are conducted via telehealth, so there's nothing to coordinate in terms of location — just a time that works for your family.

Does Dr. Wong do neuropsychological testing or IQ testing?

No — neuropsychological testing and psychoeducational evaluations aren't services we offer at Nurture Neuro. For formal testing, we'd recommend connecting with a licensed neuropsychologist, many of whom work closely with pediatric neurology practices like ours.

What we do offer is a thorough clinical evaluation of the neurologic and neurodevelopmental picture — which often helps guide families toward the right type of testing if that's needed.

Does Dr. Wong collaborate with my child's other providers?

Yes — and it's one of the things I think matters most. Neurodevelopmental care works best as a team effort. I regularly communicate with OTs, SLPs, ABA therapists, school-based specialists, and mental health providers who are already working with a child.

If your child has an existing care team, let us know during the intake process and we'll make coordination part of the plan from the start.

Do you see patients outside of Los Angeles?

Yes. Because all visits are via telehealth, we see patients throughout California — not just the LA area. If you're in San Diego, the Bay Area, Orange County, or anywhere else in the state, you're welcome to reach out.
